CBFRS is committed to providing support and assistance to families in the Elk Valley and South Country as well as providing person centered programs and services that encourage safe and healthy families.
Here are some important items of note and some program highlights over the last year:
- Our current Executive Director completed her second year in the position. A new Office Manager was added full time to the administration team in October 2024.
- Under our three Ministry of Child and Family Development Contracts we provided 7361 hours of service to clients. These services delivered include family counselling, family support, child and youth care, work and independent skills (W.I.S.P) and children and youth with support needs (CYSN).
- The Family Counsellor expanded community connections through outreach at Fernie Secondary School, providing students, families and staff with a team-based approach to supporting students and families in a more inclusive and holistic way.
- We continue to maintain a wait list for Voluntary (self-referral) services and aim to prioritize reducing this wait list in our 2025-2028 Strategic Plan.
- This year our Sexual Abuse Intervention Program (SAIP) received additional grant funding that supported efforts to build and maintain relationships with Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡi’it (Tobacco Plains), including group programmings, providing client support and developing relationships with community members while further strengthening cultural connections and community collaboration.
- CBFRS provided 7662.5 hours of service to Community Living BC clients.
- Through the Interior Health Mental Health Clubhouse (also known as Three Sisters Clubhouse) contract, CBFRS provided 525 hours of service to clients. We continue to work closely with the Elk Valley Adult Mental Health Team to increase the number of attendees.
- The Fellaship men’s mental health group had their highest and most consistent attendance from October 2024 through March 2025, averaging about 12-15 attendees per week. The Fellas have seen strength in vulnerability and connection that is being fostered between the men that attend.
- CBFRS continues to maintain CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitative Facilities) standards, with re-certification expected to take place fall 2025.
